HOLIDAY DOLL: Create a fifteen-inch doll stuffed with polyfil that has a weighted bottom. For the class, choose to make Father Christmas or an angel. You will, however, be given all pattern pieces for both dolls. The doll’s face is a fabric overlay that is attached to the head and is given simple needle sculpting. Sleeves are also overlaid onto the arms. You’ll learn how to make a yarn wig, moustache and beard. Bring lace, buttons and other fun items to embellish your doll. The doll pattern is included in the price of the class. | Click to enlarge

LONG LIMBED LADS and LASSES (also called Louie ‘n’ Lennie): Louie or Lennie is an 18 inch doll designed to sit on the edge of a table or shelf. Long, thin arms and legs sewn in a floral or bark-like fabric give a fanciful look to the figure. Adding to the whimsical look of the doll, a wild hairstyle of fringe is glued to the head. The doll wears a buttoned sandal and the sleeveless jacket can be embellished in a variety of ways. Louisa is wearing a three-dimensional art-to-wear jacket while Lenwood sports a beaded jacket and green sandals to match his hair. | Making Dolls Happen: From Pattern to Embellishments by Barbara Piano and Marion Bolson This is a five-month doll course, one session per month. At each session, Marion and I will give tips and techniques and assign a project related to each topic. Students will work on the assigned project at home. Each session after the initial orientation will open with a show and tell of students' projects. Students will explain their process including whatever difficulties they overcame or what new techniques they learned as they completed the month's assignment. The purpose of the course is to have students explore new techniques as they work with various doll patterns. We also wish to present products and resources that are available for doll makers. Models of dolls will be on display and many of the doll products can be purchased at Prosperity Quilt Shoppe. It will also be possible to set up class time for more in depth exploration of any of the topics. A minimum of 5 students will be required for scheduling a class. Individual class fees will be $55 per student plus supply fees (if applicable).
